Globetrottoir: Changing Creative Expression One Design at a Time

It’s real. It’s identity. It’s expression. It’s art. It’s Globetrottoir-a design team who will create custom, hand-painted clothing and canvases that transform your average look into something that represents everything you are. Whether it is a political statement, an inside joke, or a favourite quote that you wish to convey through your clothing, Globetrottoir can help you express yourself with style. Globetrottoir creates pieces that are 100% unique and tailor-made to suit everything you are. They take a plain, white t-shirt and create a masterpiece of expression and identity.

Globetrottoir was started up in 2005 by a group of artists who were located in Quebec and focused on one thing: the progression of the arts. The basis of this company that has grown a huge fan base over these past few years was to create something so unique that nothing after it could ever be the same. Bryan Wang, a custom works artist for Globetrottoir, explains that at the beginning "we were doing it for free, [for] friends and families. Unfortunately, our product is not free anymore, but we still do it for the same love of it." He attributes their success to the fact that "we offer custom, hand-painted gear and canvases…Every hat, airbrush painting, [and] piece of clothing that we make are…unique in this world."

 Globetrottoir originated out of the idea and the definite need in Canada to have more awareness and appreciation for the arts. The company was created to establish a solid identity and jump-start a movement of an art culture. The name "Globetrottoir" is a French name that translates into "ensemble" and "pavement;" essentially meaning a group of artists who band together to create a global movement of urban arts. A French name was used to represent the origin and culture of the company.

Globetrottoir prides itself on not being definable within a certain group, and being open to many different styles. Wang explains that "we do not have a specific target audience, but most of our [clients are] between 15-28 [years of age]. We do not have a specific style, since we want to progress in the arts and beat making, so we are focusing on a full variety of styles."

 Considering the amount of time and detail that goes into each design, the prices of Globetrottoir’s products are quite reasonable. Custom designed hats begin at $25.00; with price ranges based on the difficulty and detail of the design. Shirts begin at $40.00 and canvases at $125.00. Wang describes the process of designing as being "like a new adventure for me, a new experience. Everything is kind of a new challenge and it’s very interesting. Everything I create goes on somebody’s head, which indirectly promotes my arts." When asked if there were any limits to custom designing, Wang replied, "It does happen sometimes that I refuse an order because it doesn’t follow [Globetrottoir’s] ethics."

 Everyone likes to be one step ahead of the current fashion trends, and with Globetrottoir, the struggle with seeking your identity through your clothing is forever eased. Even a personalized hat with your favourite pair of old blue jeans is almost guaranteed to boost your confidence. Globetrottoir has not only developed a strong local fan base in Quebec; musical artists Young Buck and Ludacris can be seen rocking their designs as well.

The artists behind Globetrottoir are looking forward to opening a store in the near future, and hope to become "the main reference in terms of everything related to urban arts." In addition to creating custom designs for clothing, Globetrottoir also specializes in "beat-making," which can be sampled on their website www.globetrottoir.com. The tracks they produce are sold to musicians to use in creating music. Their website also has a portfolio of all the designs that they have created, and an online store that allows you to easily order their products.

The company is looking forward to being a vendor in upcoming car show events, opening an art gallery, and unveiling a new version of their website. Globetrottoir has only begun their climb to the top-and with their dedication and original ideas, they are creating a movement. When asked what advice he had for up and coming artists, Wang had one thing to say: "Tu puex en vivre." You can…Live from your art.
